You have to get off of the depo provera. This hormone is used to fatten up our livestock for slaughter. Therefore; we also eat it in our diets. It may be that you are getting your injection and even more depo when you eat meat that has been fed depo. Get off of the depo or else; you will continue to gain weight. This is bad for your self esteem and your social life. Once you get off; it will still take you 1-2years to lose the weight unless you eliminate most carbohydrates from your diet.

People have to understand that each form of birth control has side effects, and those side effects will affect women differently. I was on Depo for four years, and never gained a lb. My only side effect was bad headaches. Once I stopped the Depo, my period started again after 6 months, and was regular within a couple months. Now I'm on Desogen, and I have zero side effects with it. One of the benefits is that it's cleared up my skin. I love it for that. Plus I can predict exactly when my period will be. I probably wont get back on Depo, even though it was nice to not have a period.

Anyway....by "making an effort" I hope you mean you are exercising regularly and eating correctly. If you dont do those two things in tandem, you won't lose the weight. You could try joining a health club, like Jenny Craig.

Whatever you decide, good luck with losing the weight!

I was on the shot for about a year and a half. I gained weight the same as you but mine was more like 80 lbs. I have been off the shot for 7 months now and have been dieting hard and have only lost like 10 lbs. in that period of time. I am not sure what is in that shot that makes us gain the weight and keep it on. I once asked my OB why I had gained so much weight and she said that the shot had things in it that made your appetite larger and specially made you want sweets... But I wish you the best of luck with your struggle cause I know exactly where you are coming from.

Unfortunately, this is the third time I've used Depo and the second time I've gained weight. The good news is that the weight will come off, but it'll be slow. Continue to exercise and eat right . . . other than that, be patient.

So far, I've been able to lose 10 pounds in the past month. I'm still on Depo and trying to decide if I will switch. Luckily, my son has stopped nursing so I can use anything now!

Good luck!

I didn't but a good friend of mine did. She blew up like a balloon in no time, and she didn't change her eating habits. She also lost a lot of hair, and to top it off, she was super evil and moody all the time.
Other than the normal work out-do not eat junk-blah, blah, I do not have any other suggestions. Depo stays in your body for a while, so it might be hard to lose the weight right now, since there are still hormones left. However, it should level off after a while, and most of the weight should be gone without special effort.

Im actually having the same problem.

I was 140ish when I started the shot, was on it for right at a year and am now 195 and cant seem to loose or gain weight. Feels like Im stuck here.

I was due for my next shot the first week of August, but I didnt get it.....stopped taking it......so I've been off it for a month as well.

I wish I knew what would help......but I dont.

Just know that Im having the same problem and I feel your pain!

I had that trouble... I was on the depo for a full year... my dr stated my weight gain was due to increased appetite from the hormones (untrue! found out later) I went from 145 to 250 in 1 year! I had stretch marks from the rapid weight gain that I DIDNT get from previous pregnancy!

Thats the least of it... getting that weight back off? HARD it doesnt come off like it would had you put it on due to eating... I suggest starting a very in-depth program to document your food intake, liquid intake, and amount of exercise!
I started going to SparkPeople.com (which is FREE, it has food tracking and all the stuff i mentioned above) and it is slow going but the weight IS coming off... best part? Its realistic.

I wish you the best of luck.
