My hubby is a Drill Sergeant and he says that here, they do NOT smile. It just doesn't happen. You're supposed to look like a professional soldier, not a high school yearbook snapshot.

yes. there were many who smiled in there pics when i was in boot camp back in 2000 but i guess it would depend on where you are doing your boot camp and if they say not to. but go for it. the only thing they can do is take the pic again and then drop you for it.

Sure you can smile but I think by the time your drill instructor gets done yelling and giving out punishments you will wish you didn't. By the way, which branch of the service are you joining anyway?

A girl that smiled that I know got IT'ed for smiling. Ha. That is all bad! lol. I wouldn't smile with my teeth. Maybe just a small smirk or something!

My son's favorite picture was the one we took of him standing in front of his PT area with his thumbs down....but we can't mail that one to him, the drill sgts go through everything and he could get additional PT for it...so he will get it later, down the road...lol

We did back in my day, but few if any smile today. It makes them appear tough I suppose.

when I was in basic training yes you could smile but because we were so tired none of us did.
