Tithes were part of the law that Jesus fulfilled, and is no longer binding on Christians.
Lev. 27:30; Gal 3:10-13

The Israelites were required to leave portions of their fields unharvested for the poor to glean food. There was no stipulation on how much of the field was to be left unharvested.
Lev 19:9, 23:22

Christians are told to give what is in their hearts for God loves a cheerful giver.

yes it is appropriate to bring tithes to the church...

The Tithe for the children of Israel -

It is God’s requirement of the children of Israel (Gen.49:28) to tithe a tenth part (Nu.18:26, Neh.10:38, Matt.23:23, Lk.11:42, Lk.18:12 below).

The church of God (1 Cor.10:32 below, the living body of Christ Jesus - Col.1:24), whom Jesus has made “free” (Jn.8:36 below), are not under a REQUIREMENT, but are the “cheerful giver” as the giver has purposed in his own heart (2 Cor.9:7 below).


Nu.18:26 Thus speak unto the Levites, and say unto them, When ye take of the children of Israel (Gen.49:28) the tithes which I have given you from them for your inheritance, then ye shall offer up an heave offering of it for the LORD, [even] a tenth [part] of the tithe.

Neh.10:38And the priest the son of Aaron shall be with the Levites, when the Levites take tithes: and the Levites shall bring up the tithe of the tithes unto the house of our God, to the chambers, into the treasure house.

There is no scriptural reference to giving to charity beyond tithing. It does teach that if you do not tithe, you are a thief

Scripture also teaches that thieves will not inherit the Kingdom of God

1Co 6:9 Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind,
1Co 6:10 Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.

This is one of the things that proves that religions are scams. If that money would go to needed people, then it would be OK. But it doesn't; most of it goes to the administrators, relatives and friends as works. If you are not a participant of the church you will not get help without bring them a profit of some sort.

Tithing refers to giving to the community and applies to taxes.

A person who pays taxes is tithing and need give nothing to blowhards blathering on about what he thinks God said.

no it does not. it says you should tithe 10 percent but theres nothing about charity though if you feel convicted to give you should give

Yes on tithing
No, there is absolutely no reference in there about 3% to charity. However, where much is given, much is required. That's between you and the Lord.

I know you requested bible reference, but please let me post a reference from another book that I know to be true that is another reference of our Lord Jesus Christ. Even if you don't believe in, please read the words over and see the good that it has to offer:

Mosiah 4:21-25

21 And now, if God, who has created you, on whom you are dependent for your lives and for all that ye have and are, doth grant unto you whatsoever ye ask that is right, in faith, believing that ye shall receive, O then, how ye ought to impart of the substance that ye have one to another.
22 And if ye judge the man who putteth up his petition to you for your substance that he perish not, and condemn him, how much more just will be your condemnation for withholding your substance, which doth not belong to you but to God, to whom also your life cbelongeth; and yet ye put up no petition, nor repent of the thing which thou hast done.
23 I say unto you, wo be unto that man, for his substance shall perish with him; and now, I say these things unto those who are rich as pertaining to the things of this world.
24 And again, I say unto the poor, ye who have not and yet have sufficient, that ye remain from day to day; I mean all you who deny the beggar, because ye have not; I would that ye say in your hearts that: I give not because I have not, but if I had I would give.
