depending on the size of the cast, it can take from 3 to 10 minutes to remove a cast it just involves using an electric saw.
If the cast is coming off, the bone is healed, he can use it immediately, tho the leg will be weak from disuse and somewhat atrophied. He may need physical therapy to build it up again.

There are two possible interpretations of this question.
- How long must a leg cast be worn? Depends on the nature of the injury, but six to eight weeks is typical.
- How long does it take to actually remove it? A few minutes with an electric saw. Once the cast is off, he's basically good to go, although it would be sensible to avoid unnecessary stress on the leg for another few weeks.

Casts are removed by the doctor using a "CAST SAW". It's a small circular saw that only cuts the hard cast material. It stops automatically when it touches skin. Kinda cool really. They may have actually used the saw to put a small slice in the cast originally, so that he would have room for swelling of the leg. Sometimes they do that, other times they don't.
But, removing the cast does not hurt and only takes minutes!!!

It takes about 10 minutes for them to saw off the cast. Then he has to go home and exfoliate the dead skin in the shower, that may take 20. He will need a good hand cream to moisturize that leg when he is done though!

well um. if he's going to get it removed today, then it's safe to assume that his leg will be exposed to the natural world... today? Get an electric knife and cut some plaster of paris. Use a timer. That should tell ya how long it takes. Um. Yeah.
