Yes, rice is a carb just like all the others you mentioned. So stay away from it if you are watching your carbs. A trick is to eat protein first and then eat your carbs if you are going to eat them at all.

White rice is the same as bread or pasta, almost as bad as sugar - it goes straight into your blood as sugar, gets processed very quickly and leaves you hungry for more. Yes brown rice is better, has fiber and less starch, but still not great. Someone mentioned quinoa is better - that is true, it is actually very high in protein and you would be best off eating that if you want a similar texture. However couscous was also mentioned - I think a lot of people don't realize it is made out of white flour, it is basically a pasta - not good.
Go here http://www.glycemicindex.com/ and click the fourth link down on the far left - GI database - you can look up the glycemic index of foods and determine how fast your body will turn them into sugar - the slower the better.

White rice is bleached, and has very few nutrient value. Brown rice is far better for you. I don't think bread and rice are in the same category, rice is a grain, and bread is made of a grain, but is processed, with yeast and such. I would recommend The Maker's Diet by Rubin something. It's informative and has good diet tips.

Rice is a starch just as potatoes and pasta are. All starch turns into sugar in your bloodstream. They do exactly the same thing. If you are incorporating carbs or starches into your diet brown rice is better than white rice bcz it contains more fiber and nutrients. Limit your serving size to one half cup daily in place of other starches.
I have found that a slice of whole grain bread is better for weight loss than rice. For some reason rice seems to go right to the belly area.

It is in the same category if you are following a low carb diet. They say that it is a food high on carbohydrates.
Brown rice has more nutrients than white rice, but it is not as soft , and some people do not like that. I love the flavor of brown rice.

It's in the same category as far as being a carbohydrate. It's a grain, and grains, breads and pastas pretty much fall together. So if you're doing a low-carb diet, you can choose best of the evils by choosing whole grains, whole wheat, and I really dont think a bit of rice is fattening. Even beans are a carb but they are a good source of protein, so just choose wise, eat lots of proteins and raw vedgies. Good health!

Brown is definitely better. And yes white rice is in the same category as white bread, white potatoes, etc. For optimum health stick to the "whole grains" when it comes to those types of foods.
Please don't follow those low carb diets. In the long run healthy food choices are best. Fresh fruits and veggies. Lean cuts of meat. Whole grains. Limit intake of white sugar and white flour, white potatoes, and you should see long lasting results. Good luck. And sorry I gave more than you asked for.

Brown rice and oatmeal are considered good carbs, and can be digested with no problem. White rice, pasta and bread are not natural and very difficult to digest, your body will recognize
these items as if a famine was to hit and converts them to fat cells that flow through your system
and stick to the skin, waiting to be used in an emergency. Your body is designed to protect itself and will react to what you are eating. This is stored energy.
