What highlights would look best with black/dark brown hair?

As you can see, I've coloured my hair dark brown before, but now I've got 4-5 inches of pure black roots.

I have an appointment with my hair dresser on Tuesday, and I REALLY don't want to ask her - "What do YOU think I should do?" Just seems so pathetic, doesn't it?

I want to keep my hair long, but otherwise I'm open to all suggestions of how to colour, highlight and cut my hair. I'm sick of looking the same! (I'm in my mid-twenties, though, so nothing REALLY wild, please.)

I didnt get to see your pic but on dark brown or black hair i think a light aburn color looks pretty with just a few highlights. or even with dark hair a lighter brown or hue of your hair looks good to.

I think you should dye it a deep burgundy red i had the same problems with my roots and with that kinda of color you can't really tell where there at ! and the hair cut you should do long and layered but make sure you also get it thinned out it looks better that way and maybe some long bangs like just underneath your eyes and maybe to the side that would be soo cute ! well i hope my idea works for ya :)

It wouldnt let me see the pic but Im seeing like a radiant Red, like a dark , very dark glossy vibrant red. It depends on the whole effect you want. Less or more or whatever.

Thats gonna look good with the black!

do not use feria on your hair it has metallic dyes in it that will ruin your hair . when u put professional color ( what u get in a salon) it will literally make ur hair feel like wet spagetti or worse just fall out period. I suggest maybe some carmel highlites or red highlights it looks awesome and they are great fall colors

i have dark brown hair and when i have my hair colored i have had red and blonde's put in together with the foils and when it is done the red stands out it looks amazing, only downside is the red fades quicker than the blonde so needs doing every 6-8 weeks. happy hair cut

Well I also have dark brown hair, I usually use burgendy or deep red colors it makes my hair unique and most people compliment on it. I usually use Feria color or try herbal essences. Good luck and have fun.
