Chateau Neuf du Pape - Why doesn't it taste as good now as it did until 2001?

An excelllent wine. The year is was bottled has a lot to do with its excellence, and no matter what, I wouldn't turn down a bottle of it. Can't affort it, though.

All Chateaux neufs have a new odour, which vanishes over the years!

I've kinda had the same problem. I guess it would have to do with the grape growing season of that year. It can also be a wine that really needs to breathe sometimes depending on who bottled it.

That is a pretty broad generalization. Whites? Reds? Which chateaux?

But all wines vary from year to year.
