Yes, you can give a dog benadryl - but I would only use the dye-free version, because if she has allergies, she may be allergic to dye. As for how much, we give our 17 lb dog a full pill. For a chihuahua, I think I'd only use half of one. But it's probably better to at least ask a vet about the dose.

Infant benadryl works miracles. We had a dog that lived 19 years that was allergic to the grass. Needless to say she took benadryl every single day.

My vet recommended infant benadryl for dogs that size or puppies and childrens benadryl for larger dogs depending on their weight. It cleared up my dogs allegries.

If your can't get a vet to see him, and if you are sure that he needs benadryl, consult a human pharmacist, they should be able to calculate the dosage by your dog's weight.

You can give any dog a Benedryl up to their weight. If your dog is 3-5 pounds, I wouldn't give it any more than 3-5 mg.

yes, I give my little Shih-tzu the liquid children's benadryl for his allergies. Here's a chart that shows dosages for meds.

You can but you dose by weight and it could be tricky on one so small.
I give my adult dogs one tablet twice per day but that is for a 70 pound dog.
Try looking to see if they have it for babies.

Someone told me that Penn. State Univ. has a veterinary school and they have an online Q&A feature. You might want to check that out.
