I believe that there are many paths available for us to take in life, and each and every one of them is known by God. Yes, He gives us free will (He's not a puppet master) and we then have the choice of which path we will take. We can choose our path, but we cannot choose where it goes (the consequence). I believe, however, that we can exit the path, take a detour, or take another path (the proverbial "fork in the road" at any time; but we can never turn back (time past). Every path, detour, exit, or "fork in the road" leads us a different direction, chosen by us, yet ultimately known by God.
I do see your point, but as your life progresses, you will know how something that seems wrong at one time can be a blessing in disguise.
Good question. Contact me if you want to talk more.

Everything happens "for a reason". The reason the kid was shot coming out of the store was that some idiot chose to break the law. Sometimes God is the cause, but more often than not, the "reason" is consequence. Everything we do is a choice. Every choice we make has a consequence (good or bad). We choose to get out of bed and go to work. The consequence is our employer pays us and we get to do it again the next day. We choose to get drunk and go driving. The consequence may be that we have a wreck and kill somebody. Our choices affect other people. This kid died as a consequence of some elses bad choice. Did God cause this? NO. Did God allow this? Yes.
Why did God allow this? Free will. Did God know this would happen? Yes. Did God want this to happen? No.

I am not religious or spiritual, but I have always believed that yes, everything happens for a reason. I have been saying this all week after a failed real estate deal that left my husband and me very disappointed. But everything happens for a reason and everything that has ever happened to you has led you to the point where you are now. This may be good or bad, but as I look back over my life I have come to realize that things I thought were "bad" in the big picture were actually good and opened other doors for me.

Everything happens for a reason. God knows all and sees all... The devil may mean it for your bad, but God means it for your good. I lost three nephews and at first I didn't know why, but now I do. I had to seek God and find the answer. I understand where the lady was coming from.

I say that God has nothing to do with anything on Earth. People say all the time "thank God", or "why God". But God didnt shoot that boy. Some idiot with a gun did.
For example people say thank God for you getting that good job. I say heck no dont thank God, did God wake you up to goto college every day, take your exams, goto your interviews, get you that job. No you did it by having drive and ambition to do better for yourself and your family. God didnt set your alarm clock, you did. God didnt study every night, you did. God didnt goto work for you, you did.
Ok I am done babbling now. Sorry if this is confusing but this is how I feel.

Of course everything happens for a reason, but that reason is not preset or destiny. We have the free will to make certain choices and that determines certain things.
Destiny is preset and can not be changed. The greater scheme of things remains unaffected, though, your actions determine your destiny after life; there's a difference as to here in life.

Your question might imply that God is the cause of everything that happens, which I disagree with. He allows things to happen and is the direct agent for some things, but will hold man accountable for his choices, and is just in doing so.

There in basic terms 2 causes issues ensue. the first is reason and effect, and the second one is possibility. with the exception of that, no, issues do not ensue for a reason. Take it from a guy that has had extra brushes with death than you may imagine - in basic terms because you're nonetheless respiration is truly not a reason you're nonetheless the following.

I suspect we are just part of a huge experiment.
Life started on this planet.
Chance and survival shaped the evolution of the species.
Somebody is watching to see what comes out of all this.
Am I crazy?
