On the radio today they said if you cant fit 3 booster seats in the back then you dont have to.

Are there any exemptions?
Three exceptions allow children 3 years to 135 cms in height to travel in the rear and use an adult belt:

in a licensed taxi/private hire vehicle, if the right child restraint is not available; or

for unexpected necessity over a short distance, if the right child restraint is not available; or

where two occupied child seats in the rear prevent the fitment of a third child seat.

My daughter's booster seat had been designed to sit in the middle with a lap belt. The new ones prefer the side belt. What I have been hearing about is that children now need to be 4'9" tall to no longer need a booster seat. I think we have gotten a wee bit carried away. My daughter hit that height in seventh grade and there is no way she would have allowed me to keep her in a booster seat that long. Law Enforcement agencies are actually helping to install booster seats and explain the new laws. If you go to your local police department, they will have someone there who can answer your questions.

I personally would not let a child sit in a car with only a lap belt, booster seat or no booster seat, and certainly not on any long journeys.

Here is a website about the new (UK) laws on childrens car seats:

The regulation says 6 year previous OR 60lbs, yet what's most secure on your toddler? you toddler should be able to pass the 5 step attempt earlier being in only a seatbelt. The regulation is only a minimum so you might pass through. in case your toddler can pass the 5 step attempt, then they'd probable be ok being in only a seatbelt. The 5-Step attempt a million. Does the youngster sit down each and every of the some time previous adversarial to the automobile seat? 2. Do the youngster's knees bend very quite on the sting of the automobile seat? 3. Does the belt pass the shoulder between the neck and arm? 4. Is the lap belt as low as plausible, touching the thighs? 5. Can the youngster stay seated like this for the whole vacation?

Why the hell are you carrying kids without a boosters anyway, Get a 3 point belt fitted in the middle, (as I did 12 years ago) its a small price to pay to prevent serious injury to your child, can you imagine how you would feel if this was the case. If like me I've had rear end shunts and the kids have not sustained injuries because they we're in the right car seats for there weight and fastened in properly

All state laws are different. In my state (WV) all children have to be in a car seat or booster seat until they reach 8 years of age OR 80 lbs. whichever comes first. You would have to check your states website or contact your state police headquarters for the laws pertaining child seats in your state.

In our state depending on the size and weight, all children HAVE to be in a child or booster seat. And it would be more dangerous than having that child a flying projectile.

Depends on the state. Check the department of transportation's webpage for your state. They should have a child seat section with your state's law.
