Since our wonderful and Godly president Bush is so insistant that we should be torturing prisoners, I'm wondering if most people here believe that Jesus would be/is PRO TORTURE.

WWJD?

farkas419, Bush is fighting his own party members, including John McCain (someone who HAS been tortured) so he can get a bill passed that allows the US to torture...I think that pretty much makes Bush PRO TORTURE

Since being tortured was the last human experience he had, I would tend to think he would remember how much it sucked. Hence, one would hope he is against torture.

I think that Jesus would be more concerned about how many people those terrorists were trying to kill. Does this mean I agree with torture? NO! Does this mean that President Bush agrees with torture? Not necessarily. All that has been admitted is that there were alternative methods of interrogation used. I see nothing wrong with that. In that case, the ends do justify the means.

Here is an exerpt from the news article in the comments section of this question:
Bush urged lawmakers to quickly approve legislation authorizing military tribunals and harsh interrogations of terror suspects in order to shield U.S. personnel from being prosecuted for war crimes under the Geneva Conventions, which set international standards for the treatment of prisoners of war.

Notice, it says "HARSH INTERROGATIONS of terror suspects". Nowhere in there should one take it to mean "torture." Not only that, but as I said, these are TERRORISTS. When interrogating them, sometimes one has to go to extremes. Would you authorize someone to use "any means necessary" to save thousands of lives? I would, even though I would hate myself for it.
You don't think President Bush hates himself? He's doing what's necessary. I feel sorry for him, and I wouldn't wish his position on my worst enemy.
But no matter how logical or rational the argument for alternative means of interrogation is, I suppose that terrorists deserve more rights than the people they're planning on killing. Maybe if we play nice, they'll stop....never mind the fact that we've already tried that.

To be christian is to be Christ like and to follow his example I can't ever remember reading that Jesus tortured people so I guess I have to come to the conclusion he was not pro torture.

Bush is not representative of Christ.
You should not blaspheme against the Messenger of God, otherwise people might consider you as being deprived of reason.

Of course not. But Bush seems to think so. I wonder what religion he is supposedly following, not Christianity.
