We buy Purina Lamb and Rice for small dogs for our pups. I have two chihuahuas. They seem to like it really well and have both fattened up on it.

I agree with the other posters to buy a quality food---not one that is full of fillers. The volume of poop generated by a quality food is MUCH less than the volume generated by a cheap food.

We buy the Purina Lamb and Rice for small dogs because it is a smaller kibble that even our smallest chi doesn't have a problem with.

Of course they will also snag all the cat food they can when they think we're not looking---and one of our chi's has been known to go foraging on the table for scraps. All our pups are pretty spoiled.

Dog food.

Try getting a food that is made for smaller dogs..they have smaller peices.

Also make sure that you are buying a good quality food, not a kind from the super market. The cost will even out in the end because the quality foods have more nutrition in them....meaning that the dog will eat less.....also meaning that he will poop less.

Also, everyone likes to spoil there pet, but try to stay away from people food. The more people food you give your dog, the more his feces will smell. It is also not very healthy for him.

Hope this helps

Dog food. But not just any dog food---wholesome dog food that contains all natural ingredients, no fillers (ie: corn, brewer's rice, rice hulls), and no by-products (you want foods that contain a meat -meal- of some sort---it is meat with the moisture removed and is highly nutritious).

Some good brands are:

Blue Buffalo - Blue for Dogs
Nutro Ultra
Chicken Soup
Timberwolf Organics

Make sure the first ingredient is always a meat source of some sort, such as chicken meal, or lamb meal and that the first 10 ingredients are all natural and wholesome (such as brown rice, and vegetables or other meats).

Remember, ingredients are listed on dog foods in the order in which the food contains the most of via weight. So if the first ingredient is chicken meal, that means the main ingredient (per weight) is chicken meal.

Royal Canin Chihuahua dog food is an excellent food specially made for the Chihuahuas but very expensive. Petsmart carries it.

Mine likes to nibble on my ankles. I don't like the blood but it's pretty cute when she does it.

She also eats her own puke.

Cute huh?! I LOVE my little Chalupa.
