I get a pain in the middle front of my head.. about an inch inside.. When deepest I lose awareness of everything, time, self, body, everything, even the meditation itself. But that is rare. It happens when I realize I am ready to drop the focus of my meditation itself. Then I let go completely and there is nothing. I guess the brain's activity is spread out in even rythm with no focal point. I really have no idea.

also, if I'm very tired and decide to go to sleep after meditating, the transition between mental states can be too fast and cause halucinations. I had an experience where I was unable to sit while meditating. I chose eventually to sleep, and went straight into a dreaming state and then a few seconds into the dream had a shocking/intense hallucination. So now I always come out of the meditation before sleeping.

I have a problem with falling to deep into meditive states too fast. So now I have a sort of phobia that's causing me to hold back when I meditate.

'shrugs'

Usually now it's just shallow. That gentle focus, followed by those distractions that float by as I regain my focus, and warm hands, relaxed body. For me the insights come after a meditation, because during.. I'm too busy :P

I've had the "third eye" experience a couple of times--and I have to say, it always freaks me out a bit and I run from it. If I can hold on to it a bit...and sometimes any words trying to come into my head, or any concrete thoughts, just turn into colors and lights.

Lately I've been practicing self-paralyzation (lie down flat, breathe deeply until your muscles are so relaxed that movement becomes difficult) which has been much more mellow...I'm also a bit more consciously in control there, which is helpful in some ways and detrimental in others.

When I was doing A Course in Miracles and zen (zazen), I actually got close to the 'no self' experience. I felt excited and scared & didn't go further w/ it (my friend did). A Zen monk asked me, when I was going into a week-long zen sesshin, what would allow me to stay with it to experience the milestone of the 'no self'; I told him I was motivated this time (but I deluded myself b/c I was more into other stuff).
