If you power walk, (really fast & swing your arms to help get the heart pumping) you can go for about 45 minutes. Make sure that you reach your target heart rate for a minimum of 20 minutes in the middle of the walk. You'll need to do at least 10 minutes of warm up & stretching before you start & then a cool down & stretches at the end. Ensure you wear the correct footwear in the form of running shoes (not cross trainers). Drink lots of water & eat a lite protein snack when you are finished. If you do this 3 times per week, you should see a good weight loss of about 2pounds per week provided you are eating healthily. I wouldn't recommend walking every day as you will fatigue your muscles & they won't get enough time to recover in between walking sessions. They need at least a 24 hour recovery to develop muscle memory (strength) to be able to go again at a decent pace without getting very tired. Hope this helps. Don't know your age but I can tell you that the Target heart rate for a 25 year old is 23 beats during a 10 second count. If you want more info on target heart rate then check out some fitness websites.

My ideas? Try to do 200 minutes of cardio a week. Remember fat does not turn into muscle, so you need to lose your fat while putting on muscle. Work hard, but don't over 60 minutes at a time. Do planks and other abs exercises on alternate days.
On training days, do 5-10 minutes of cardio to warm up, then do your weight training. Do 30 to 60 minutes more of cardio, then go home.
The best time to eat is just after your workout within an hour when your metabolism is raging. For your muscles, incorporate some isolated soy protein or whey protein. Whey is more potent but the soy tastes better!
Don't look at your scale as the be all and end all, but get a measuring tape to check your progress, and that will show more tangible results.
Read magazines like Shape, Womens Fitness, Fitness, etc to get tips and to stay motivated.
Good luck and stick at it. This plan has lost me 20 lbs in 12 weeks so far, just go for it!

You need to eat right. It will take 20 minutes of walking or any other activity before you start to lose fat. So walking 45-60 minutes is a great routine. Work your way up to that length of time. If you weight train, walk afterwards this will compensate for the 20 minutes. Your body is active so you start burning fat right away.

It depends on how many calories you consume. In order to lose weight, you have to be burning at least half the amount of calories that you consume. So stay active through out the day and keep your diet low on Saturated fats, and high on protein and fiber. Also, it burns more calories if you run rather than walk because your increasing your endurance in a shorter amount of time.

Walk for a good hour. Two hours would be ideal but hard to accomplish if it's possible for you go for it and you'll see results in probably a couple of weeks.
