ok, so this guy walks me home everyday from school and hes really nice, but i find myself just smiling and nodding when he talks because its either really boring, or i have no idea what hes talking about. he went out with another chick i know, so that mught help somehow, idk. but i think he might ask me out and i dont know what to say when he does because i dont want to lie but the truth might hurt just as much. and theres another guy i like and we might go out...anyway, i just dont want to hurt his feelings because hes really nice

You should not lie, but be firm. Tell him that you are honored to be asked, but you would rather have him as a good friend and that you think that dating will make that too complex to handle. Be nice and NEVER talk about him behind his back. He sounds innocent and you don't want to crush him anymore than you would like to be treated that way.

Your wanting for him not to be harmed is a good start.
Tell him the truth hon.... he may not understand but he'll see the compassion in your eyes if you dont hide it from him.

OK well maybe you could ask his "advice" on what you should do with this other guy.That way he'll get the hint and not ask you out and you get to avoid any awkwardness
