Your question was clear and to the point, I do not understand why SOME PEOPLE couldn't understand it.

Your ceremony is basically just that....what makes is legal is what you do before the ceremony when you go to the courthouse and sign all the papers. So it doesn't matter where the ceremony is as long as it is done by a legal officiant. If you went to the bahamas and never did any of the paperwk in the US then u would have an illegal marriage.

In the United States at least in Florida you can get anyone to perform the wedding who is at least a notary after you pay for the marriage. Some countries are not recognized from what I understand because people were abusing the system for divorce then remarry for tax evasion reasons. So I would check into it. But I know a woman who married in Guatamala and the U.S. government recognized it as a legitimate marriage probably because she went through all the legal requirements of that country. Did you get married by a real government agency there and does the U.S. recognize the government as a government?
Well I found a big huge page about divorces abroad at the state department possibly the marriage issue is there also

check this out on the same page as the divorces oh boy

U.S. CONSULAR CERTIFICATES OF WITNESS TO MARRIAGE: With the repeal of the old 1860 statute on "solemnization of marriages", 22 U.S.C. 4192 on November 9, 1989, U.S. consular officers ceased issuing "Certificates of Witness to Marriage". Copies of certificates of witness to marriage issued between 1860 -1989 are available from the Office of Passport Services, Vital Records Section , CA/PPT/PS/PC, Suite 510, 1111 19th Street, N.W., Washington, D.C. 20522, 202-955-0307. See also the Passport Services section of the Consular Affairs home page on the Internet at http://travel.state.gov.

FOREIGN MARRIAGE CERTIFICATES: In the absence of the issuance of a "Certificate of Witness to Marriage," copies of foreign marriage certificates may be obtained directly from the civil registrar in the foreign country where the marriage occurred. Contact the embassy or consulate of the foreign country in the United States for guidance on how to obtain copies of foreign public documents. The documents may then be authenticated for use in the United States as explained below. English translations may be certified by translators in the United States before a notary public. When requesting copies of foreign public documents such as marriage or divorce records, it may be advisable to write to the foreign authorities in the language of the foreign country. Enclose copies of pertinent documents and any required fees in the form of an international money order.

Explain your question. If you are asking if you got married in another country is it legal in the United States, the answer is yes as long as it was legal in the country it was performed in.

Taken from the Sandals website ...

Yes, the marriage is a legal binding marriage, and once you have received your marriage certificate, you can register at your local courthouse (or take whatever steps are necessary to register the marriage in your home state.)
