Even his critics are agreed that the Pope did not intend to cause offense to the world’s Muslims.
He quoted a work edited by the highly-respected Lebanese-born scholar Theodore Khoury, who works out of Munster university. This speech, as its esoteric tone and content testifies, was an address by Professor Joseph Ratzinger, scholar, rather than by Pope Benedict XVI, world religious leader.
The Pope’s mistake was his failure to distance himself from the Byzantine Emperor’s comments, surely inflammatory enough in their own time, but a thousand times more so when repeated today.
Byzantine Emperor’s in 14 century addressed his interlocutor with a statement on the central question about the relationship between religion and violence in general, saying: "Shows me just what Muhammad brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached."
And it was all what Pope said, but Muslims do not like it.

The pope made a comment that got thje Muslims panties twisted into tight little knots. He actually was reading a quote from an old Medieval text:
"Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached".

In a recent speech, he quoted from another source (can't recall who) who condemned the Islamic prophet Mohammed for advocating the spread of Islam "by the sword".
Many Muslims, as well as myself, believe this to be an unfair statement and summation on the religion. The majority of Muslims are peace-loving. There are factions within Islam that seek destruction and dommination. It is usually only these factions that get media attention.

the pope is the biggest liar of all the hypocritical religious people. he lives exactly the opposite of what J C lived. but then religious people have no integrity. why do you think they pray for. to over come their guilt or to ask for help because they lack the integrity to do the right thing from the beginning

Apparently he said something about muslims guess i'll have to watch the news or other answers here. Good question. Maybe he said he is sorry that a previous Pope unleashed his legions of evil doers on Arabs about a thousand years ago just for fun and profit.

He read some comments made back in the 14th century about Islam and stating that they needed to stand up against forced conversion and millitants and prove they are a faith of peace. Too many seem to not realize he did not write those comments. Now I am not stating that they were the best choice to read just the truth about what was said.
