you did not say what kind of a group home you want. there are group homes for homeless teens, for the handicapped, the mentally ill, etc.

in each case, they are operated by agencies, such as child care agencies, agencies that assist the mentally ill, etc.

you might be talking about becoming an independent provider, which is available in some states. in this case, you would become licensed to take people from that particular population into your home. or you might want to buy a home that is already approved for occupancy by those populations.

you need to do one of two things. let us say, for example, you wanted to have a home for handicapped people. you would have to contact the county you live in and ask for the department that handles people with disabilities. or you can call the state office of disability in your state. other thing you can do is contact a private agency that does that kind of work in your community and ask them how it works and how you can become a provider. good luck
