If you are talking about a copy of his DD Form 214 or discharge papers, check the local Register of Deeds office of the county he was in when he got out of service. They are told to go an have their 214's recorded there. If not there, go to the website www.vetrecs.archives.gov to order a copy of the 214 off line. You will need to know his SSN, his dates of service, date of birth, etc. If he is still living, you may not be able to get them, he would have to do that, due to a confidentially thing. There is also a form called Standard Form 180 that you can get from your local Veterans Services office, that needs to go to National Personnel Record Center, 9700 Page Boulevard, St. Louis, MO 63132.

The first person you can write or talk to is the adjutant of the unit he belongs to. Then he would direct you to the proper unit handling the records of the entire Armed Forces, that is i think would be the Adjutant General.

Your congressman should be able to get that information for you from the DOD.
