She needs extra help in school because of unstable highs and lows with her blood glucose levels. She is Type 1 and takes about 3 to 4 needles a day. With her levels ranging from 38 to 720 she can not focus in a classroom. I have been told that the only way to get assistance is if she goes blind. i do work hard and earn a decent salary but i also have other children to care for and is already stretching my dollars. Am i right to apply for the extra help from the gov't and is there a chance that i will get it? Also anyone with a diabetic child tell me the best cereal to purchase for a 1800 carb diet.

ok, you may request that an Individual Diabetes Care Plan be developed and implemented for my child. You need to authorize the institution/school to secure any related health care information from the health care provider.

http://www.ncdiabetes.org/LegislativeIssues/LegislativeIssues.asp here is the link to the necessary paper work for that.

You might find more information here http://www.ncdiabetes.org/ about the resouces your daughter might be able to quilify for. I hope I was able to help you a bit. Best of Luck, fellow NC!!

I am writing to tell you what an incredible impact these methods had on my life! I have had type 2 diabetes for 27 years. For me, the worst part of this horrible disease is the severe pain I constantly get in my feet. The pain is so bad that I avoid standing and walking as much as possible. I've got to tell you that within the first month, my feet stopped hurting altogether and I can now walk totally pain free.

Believe it or not, I even danced at my niece's wedding last month, something I have not done in a many years. I've been following the book for six months now and my blood sugar is well within normal range. I feel great!

I recommend you use the Type 2 Diabetes Destroyer to naturally reverse your diabetes.

She really needs to get that under control. Talk to her endocrinologist about getting the insulin pump implant. It delivers a dose when it first detects that the sugar is imbalanced.
My niece was the same way. Had to have the pump. It's hard for kids to learn to handle their diabetes. They want to be like all the other kids who can eat cakes, cookies, candy, sodas, etc. and they can't.

No disability. YOU are the one who has to control her eating, exercise. God forbid she ever does become REALLY disabled because of this.

Check out the American Diabetes Association: http://www.diabetes.org/home.jsp
They have all kinds of recipes and info

Apply for SSI even if you dont get a check , You will still receive health insurance and others special programs for your child. She does not have to be blind, just somewhat sick or disabled .Go to SSA.gov for all the info.

I don't think diabetes qualifies for disability.. have you considered/fought for a insulin pump. These are musch better at regulation medication in children who are otherwise incapable of careing for themselves..
