I wonder if you are confusing the difference between loneliness and solitude. Loneliness is not really nice at all, and is a desire for company as I understand it, and therefore, it is logical to assume that it makes you unhappy.

Solitude on the other hand is blissful, I think so anyway. I feel like this on Sundays which to me is a lovely quiet, personal, spiritual (not religious) sort of day as the majority of businesses are closed, the postman doesen't call, and I can turn the phone off, (leaving the ansafone on silent to check at my leisure later), and just get stuck into gardening, or reading a book in the garden or sun lounge with just my dog and cat for company and be totally indulgent. This makes me happy and is what I call 'solitude'.

by lonely do u mean alone/solitude? If yes then it's perfectly alright. we need not depend on others to gain happiness.
on the other hand some people have really bad expereiences being in some company (for e.g. a failed marriage or bad break up), these people might rediscover the joy of being alone.

But if you really meant "lonely" as "lonely" then I would say.......loneliness itself is a state of mental condition and by and large this state is more often unpleasant than anything. So it would be like being happy and sad together at the same time for all practical purposes which would be unusual but not impossible!

I don't think so. It is possible to be ALONE and happy at the same time, but there is a big difference, you can be alone but not lonely if you know you can have company when you want it, then you are happy, lonely is a sad thing!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, but there is a diffrence between being alone and being lonely. I am an only child, so therefore I happy with my own company. Plus, when I see my pals in unhappy relationships, I am glad I am single - but I am not lonely.

Most of the time I am happy when I am lonely. So it is possible, nothing is impossible in this world.

YES!

But it depends on your nature. A walk in some beautiful , empty place can be the most lonely and the most enjoyable thing you can do with your clothes on. But we are social creatures, so most won't like it for long, because we like to share experiences. If you are chronically lonely, you won't be happy.
