Is it true that donkeys have crosses on their backs, and if so why is this? Has it got to do with Jesus' journey to Calvary? What is the reason for crosses on hot cross buns? Has it got anything to do with the Knight Templars?

They do have markings that could be seen as crosses on their shoulders and it was supposedly put there by god because the donkey was the animal on which Mary traveled to Bethehem while pregnant with Jesus.

"Although many donkeys are the familiar gray-dun color, there are many other coat shades. Most donkeys, regardless of coat color, will have dorsal stripes and shoulder crosses, dark ear marks, as well as the "light points" - white muzzle and eye rings, and a white belly and inner leg."

I don"t know about donkeys. But i have a little dog that has a white cross on his chest. I guess it makes him holy.

Markings on animals may create mythology, but not the reverse.
