Sounds pretty smart to me. But, normal if she is the oldest or only child. My oldest daughter did all of the same and was potty trained in one day when she was 21 months old. She still does very well at excelling. Also, I have 2 other daughters and they are not exactly what Olivia my oldest was. :) I think we spend more time with our first child and they learn more and more quickly because we take the time to teach them. Keep up the good parenting. A child who is open enough to learn at such an early age is most definitely loved and content. God bless!

As a grandmother of a 21 month old I would say she is a little advanced for a 2 yr. old and sounds like she is an only child around all aldults. My grandson can count to 10 not 20 ,boys do not learn as fast as girls for some reason, but sings the songs he hears on Enstein and knows his colors, does all the shapes with puzzles he has been bought that lights up when he gets the correct shape in the right place,so a lot of things depend on what they are given to play with.At their age the are like little tape recorders, they repeat what they hear, but do they know what they are saying? Sometimes no and sometimes the bad words are repeated as well as the please and thank you's they hear. He has a potty, has used it several times but will still go in his pants if he is busy playing and mommy is busy as well, but when he goes on the potty she can tell he needs to and places him on there and reads to him while he sits on it,and makes it fun,the child will do and say a lot more, the more time that is spent with them. If a child is left to lay in a play pen or crib they may learn to turn over, but that is about all if they are left to them selves. The more interaction an adult has with the child ,the more faster they learn, but how much do they retain is the real answer to your question. Howerver keep encouraging her with edcatuatonal toys and talking with her and exposing her to as much as she can handle at her age and who knows, you may have an exceptional child but it is too early to tell at this point.

My son was doing the same hes 3 now and can also pick out letters and spell his name. and do patterns. Dora and his dad helped him learn the spanish, and his
colors, shapes, alpabet were from the leap pad toys. It all depends on the kid and the parents/caregivers. But really the expect all that when they start preschool. Where I live they can go to school at the age of three. they also want them to know how to write, and cut a line, know their address and phone number. I personally dont want my 3 year old playing with anything that can cut a line but if the s

She's smarter than most kids, but it's nothing unusual. My parents wondered if I was some child-genius at that age when I learned the Hebrew alphabet before I learned the English one. My brother could recite the alphabet at 1 1/2. She's smart, but nothing too special about those things :)

It's not 'normal', but it's not exactly abnormal, either. Some kids absorb knowledge faster and earlier than others. My niece just turned five; she can only count to 13 before getting confused with higher numbers, has just recently learned to recognise her name in written form, and can only barely write her first name. Her parents never work with her and pretty much leave her to her own devices with dolls. They read to her, but don't let her follow along by looking at the book. It bothers me a bit that she's so behind because I could read and write when I was three, and could write in cursive when I was four (thanks to my mother, who actually encouraged me to do what I wanted and bought me books out my ears). All kids develop mentally at slightly different speeds. It's why there are some 8-year-olds skipping three grades and some who can barely read.

My advice: Keep encouraging her! Give her books, colours and colouring books, learning toys, and all the attention you possibly can. Keep helping her down this road, and you'll have one smart little chick on your hands. ;)

I think your daughter is definately leaning to the gifted side. At 2 years old most children are just starting to put two words together not composing their own songs. This is a wonderful gift for both of you but be careful that you don't push her to hard and make sure that she always has free play and lots of activities that promote exercise and burn energy. The brain works best if it is used in all ways intended.

Your daughter is more 'advanced' than most 2 year olds... she appears to have excellent memory skills, so is able to retain information.

Obviously her language skills are advanced as well. As to whether she is gifted or not.... you need to look at other aspects... everything you have mentioned are things she can learn by rote, which she obviously has an aptitude for.

This is excellent, and you should definitely continue to nurture it in your daughter, but at the same time look at other areas, as this is a trap I have seen many parents fall into before. The main area of difficulty I find in children who tend to be more advanced in one or two particular areas, is that they tend to be immature when it comes to dealing with social situations. This becomes particularly evident around 3-4 years of age.

You have a precious daughter, and with your guidance (and that of teachers) she will continue to flourish and become a well rounded little girl!

Oh yes, she is very smart, my nephew started the same way at 2 years old he knew all of his colors and was able to count as well, he is very smart right now and he graduated high school with a 4.0 GPA, however my other nephew on the other hand could barely talk when he was 2 years old, and was slow at learning his colors, and practically struggled thoughout high school.

Well,Shes certianltly not stupid! shes not a genius but if she watches TV alot (most little kid stuff is educational, like blues clues and sesame street and dora) Then she will excell in everything when she starts school because she is creative and has a good memory! Of course it might also be partialy genetic and good parenting. So whatever your doing KEEP DOING IT!

Usually the oldest or only child learns faster than the later children.. At any rate sounds like you are doing a great job I would encourage any and all learning activities with her seems like she would rather enjoy them...
I would also check out any books in regards to advanced children and how to help them. It is great for her to be so advanced however when she starts pre-school she may find herself bored...
