I have had these "attacks" since December. Adding fiber to my diet has helped, but I am still having them. I have done research on the Internet, and I am sure I am having gall bladder attacks. My doctor won't see my for over a week. Is that okay, or should I go to the ER if I have an attack between now and then? The pain is awful, lasts for hours, and makes me feel like crap the next day.

You need to call your doctor back and tell them you want to be seen now. If not go to a place like "Doctor's Care". It's very simple. All they have to do is some blood work and/or an abdominal ultrasound. That will tell if you possibly have a gall stone stuck in a bile duct. This is very painful. I just had surgery to have my gallbladder removed on 9/2/06. I looked on yahoo answers for the possible symptoms and I had all of them, nausea, vomitting, pain in upper stomach. The only one I didn't experience that many people do is backpain or pain between shoulder blades. Listen to what your body is telling you.

First contact your doctor's office and stress the fact that you're in extreme pain. This may prompt the front office staff to work you in sooner than one week. Sometimes the same day you call. If this isn't successful, the next time you have an attack, have someone drive you to the ER/ED immediately or call 911 if needed.

LIMIT OILY FOODS....
I had a 4 week old newborn at home when I had severe attack, which is common after pregnancy. It was so extreme that I called my doctor & he advised me to go to the E.R. they did an ultrasound to show me the 3 stones in the gallbladder. They put me on an I.V. medication in order to sooth the pain that night & then they advised me to limit any oily foods since it could cause an attack since the gallbladders job is to release bile into the system to break them down for digestion. It just so happens that I had ceasar dressing the night before my terrible attack. They scheduled surgery for me 3 days after the E.R. visit. If you have an attack so bad that you can't handle it, get to the E.R.

I had my gallbladder out 15 years ago after letting it go too long. If you have an attack before your doc will see you get yourself to the ER and yell! Gallbladder, kidney stone and labor are the three most intense pains in the body. You need treatment when this kind of pain hits, good luck.

My husband lived for YEARS with a bad gall bladder. They had him try and help it with a change in diet. When that didn't work, he had it taken out.
A week should be fine but only you can decide if the pain is life threatening (gall bladders do rupture).
