Here is a link to the English translation of the Pope's controversial speech: http://www.vatican.va/holy_father/benedict_xvi/speeches/2006/september/documents/hf_ben-xvi_spe_20060912_university-regensburg_en.html

With love in Christ.

Now that he has the world's attention, perhaps he should use the forum to clarify. He was quoting a Christian king from the era of the crusades...why? What IS his agenda??

He might want to mention that MISINTERPRETATION and MISREPRESENTATION are just as big of a threat now as they were then. If he wants peace, then he shouldn't be looking at the crusades for guidance. The most common observation of that era is that the Christians were anything but peaceful.

This would be after he had done his research to know that the hate-laden spewing of the misguided fundamentalist islamists has nothing to do with the teaching of the Prophet Mohammed.

Leave it be. He spoke to his constituency in the content and context that his constituency understands and expects. The moslem world that is fussing are the worst kind of hypocrits, there are more slamming and slanderous things spoken about the West and its religious leaders than anything the West has said about them. I started reading the text of a preacher in Gaza a few years ago and had to laugh, if a Christian had said these things this way, they would have strung him up!--and that from a preacher of the "religion of peace", as some like to portray Islam. Christians can do no right, the rest of the world can do no wrong. The Pope said what he said, Get over it.

I will say that Islam is the religion that respects knowledge, logic and deep thinking. It is the evidence-based religion. Three types of people are not required to follow Islamic orders: the child till he grow up, the sleeping till he wake up, and the insane till he gain his mind, in the three groups the mind is lacking so Islamic orders are not ordained on them, but when a Muslim is competent with full mental capacity Islamic orders are obligated on him. Now compare this to the concept of blind faith that the Pope asks his followers to adopt as the basis for their believe.

No, he shouldn't apologize whatsoever.

He did nothing wrong

Pope Benedict XVI simply quoted a Christian who lived in the 7th century. This quote was and is historically accurate. The Muslims must come face-to-face with the actions of their prophet Mohammad.

No, he shouldn't have to apologize. He has the right to say what he thinks. Why should he be a diplomat? What is all this PC crap about?

Muslims deny the holocaust happen, but compare him to Hitler. They praise Hitler for killing jews, but deny the Holocaust happened. They cut off INNOCENT PEOPLES HEADS!!!!!!! PRISONERS were subjected to Panties on the head and they were "offended"....

What the hell is the world smoking??? Someone cannot sucker punch people and then complain about getting sucker punched...

Don't know what all the uproar is -- nothing he said about Islam (conversion by force, bringing out man's inhumanity, etc.) couldn't be turned right around and applied to Christianity just as easily (Spanish Inquisition or Crusades, anyone?)...

It saddens me that, in this day and age, grown men and women are still killing each other over whose imaginary friend is the best....
