Jsut talk to him about teachers and school. See how he reacts. Building relationships take time. Find out what kind of activities or sports he likes and learn a little about them and ask him questions about those.
Also, when you talk to him, say his name once in a while. People like to hear thier own names. And whenever he walks up to you make sure you smile. There is nothing better than when someone looks at you and they smile because they are seeing you.

Here are your options.
1. Talk to him see if he is interesting and nice. If he is maybe suggest you hang out some and see where it goes from there. Either you will like him and he will like you which is good, or one of you won't be interested in the other and life will go on.
2. You never talk to him and never realize whether or not you would have worked together.
