This is actually not a straight forward question or answer.
The US have changed a lot of the regulations in the last 4 years, this year they have added another.
You now need to have not only your own passport but it needs to be of the type that has a bar code on the back page, if it doesn't I believe you now need a visa (although this may have been put back as it was originaly being brought in last year).
If you do have a new style passport you dont need a visa and will just fill out an I94 (visa waiver).
Don't leave it to chance as they WILL turn you back if they want to.
When you enter you get photographed and electronicaly fingerprinted, this information is cross referenced with the info they have on file.
The best thing to do is to check the US Embassy 's website for the latest updates. I have added the link for you.

If you are an adult with an UK passport with at least 6 moths left and a return ticket within 3 months, you do not currently need a visa - you should be able to get a 90 day tourist under the visa waiver scheme.

providing you have a machine readable passport and a digital photograph in the passport and you are staying no more than 90 days in the usa and have an onward/return ticket to show immigration on arrival you do not require a visa, also depends on nationality of the passport most european countries including british do not require visa unless you are greek, and you have a greek passport then you will need a visa. If you have all of the above mentioned then you can enter on the visa waiver scheme, if your passport still has a passport photo stuck inside it then I would get a new passport issued with the digital photo.

As long as you have your own full passport, a return ticket with your details of departure then no, you don't - unless it's changed recently but your travel agents or whoever you bought your tickets from should have told you that anyway. If you have any criminal convictions, however, then you need to apply for a visa from USA house in London.
Hope it helps and have a great holiday. Florida's great. I was there in 1988 for 2 weeks and there's a LOT more on offer there now I believe. I'm dead jealous. :)

You don't say where you are from. There is nothing unique about Florida. If you are allowed into the US you can go to Florida.

Mostly it depends on if you are old enough to go by yourself. Anybody over the age of 5 years doesnt need one depending on what location you go to. You will have to check with your local human resourse center.
