I read today that 65% of those who pay the $1,200 into the GI bill never get any money in return. Why is this? Is there a way to insure you get the GI Benifets?

No it's not hard. I was in the army for three years, then when I got out I applied and was accepted into a school. Then, all I had to do was talk to the VA secretary and they did everything for me. As long as I was in a degree seeking field of study at an approved institution they pay the money. I originally signed up for $25,000 when I joined and they paid over $40,000 because of increased cost of living. I'm very happy with it. In fact I have a little bit left that I can use. I think I'll use it to get some type of certificate.

The only way you won't get your money is if you don't go to an approved school (most are) or if you don't seek a degree. There are probably a few other things you need to know about, but the VA office at your school will help you.

P.S. If I go full time I can probably get about $1300 a month.

I had no difficulty at all...talked to the VA rep on campus the same time I started filling out financial aid paperwork (5-6 months before the semester started). Check was in the mail first month, used all 48 months worth of VA educational benefits...ye haw!

Being a Nam Vet, I can tell you from personal experience, getting your benifets is about as hard as jerking off a bengal tiger, no chit!! God Bless America, And Our Troops! 1st. Sgt., 7th Special Forces, (Ret.) Vietnam, "67"-"70"

It's so easy. All you do is fill out some paperwork, (you can get it at the college you want to attend)send it in to your regional office. Every month you are enrolled in school they send you a verification form, you sign it send it back and you get a check in the mail within a few weeks.

You have to apply for them in order to get them. Go to your V.A. office and start the paper work. The reason many do not get the benifits is they do not apply.
