From april 2003 to april 2004 I was a Homecarer but my employer never5 told me I could claim an allowance. I was certainly entitled to. Can I still claim it..? There are several of us disgruntled emloyees who were victims of a disreputable firm who have since gone bust. I have all my P60's, some rotas and a few wage slips

Yes you can, you will need to know the amount of business miles you travelled during the year and you can claim 40p a mile per mile.
you can claim up to 6 years ago so 2003/2004 will be fine.

If you are not dealt with under self assessment you just need to advise the inland revenue of the miles you want to claim and send it in together with your p60 and any other income you had such as bank interest or dividend payments.

It shouldnt take too long if you are dealt with by an up to date office. (this will be your current office and not the office that dealt with your previous employer)

If you are SA you will need to make an error and mistake claim to your 2003/04 tax return and claim the mileage on the employment schedules. (i assume you are probably not SA)

You will get an interest supplement too.

You can claim allowance against tax if youre self employed but back pay is almost impossible to claim! If your successful it takes about 6-9 months if youre lucky

Best to contact your local tax office, but i know that it is possible to claim tax on 40p per mile if you use your own vehicle for work purposes so definately worth checking

you are def entitled to travelling expenses but sine the firm has gone bust you would need to apply to the sequestrator for ur share...which is very unlikey to be fruitfull.......cut ur losses and dont make the same mistake again im afraid..
