What is your description of the American dream? What is the American dream to you? Mine is that you have the perfect husband. He goes to work and earns money for his family. The wife stays home and takes care of the kids and they both are happy. They should have their first child when the wife is around the age of twenty-two or twenty-three. Then they'll live happily ever after. What do you think? What's your opinion?

If it works for you, then great. Goals are great to have, but the should be realistic and you should allow yourself room for growth and changes of plans. Also you can set goals for yourself, but you cannot change other people. Saying that you are supposed to have children at age 22 years old seems kind of restricted and too planned out.

For me, the American dream is to be independent and have a wonderful job, a cool car with my own house.

I'm already married, but it was not on my agenda in life, but I'm very happy with my man. If and When my husband and I both want children, we will sit down and talk about it.

That is not exactly my dream. My dream is my wife works and makes all the money, while I sit around and drink wine and play tennis at the country club.

Does that sounds selfish?

Reverse the roles now, where I make the money, while my wife sits around drinking wine and playing tennis. That is the reality for me. Sure she gets the kids ready in the morning, and does 70% of the driving them to functions (because I am at work). However, she has 10 times the free time that I do. Is that really fair.

I agree with you. I would also throw in being a homeowner, being able to make lots of time for family togetherness. Frequent vacationing.

Not sure about the age of kids though. BUT I am from Long Island and things are VERY expensive here and we spend more time being kids and earning money to be able to afford those kids of our own.

Yeah, it's nice living the dream...

You should not make plans like this. This could lead to great dissapointment. Meet the right man and when you both are ready get married. Once you are married you plan the rest of the american dream together.

The American Dream is whatever you want it to be. That is why this called the land of the free. we are all free to make our own dreams come true.

I live my own life and do what I want. There's no such thing as a "perfect" hubby or home life.
