Think of the house as an extension of your self. If your house is a dump, then your life is probably a wreck. If your house smells bad, it appears you either don't notice or you don't care. Neither is good. If you have nothing but junk food, or worse, empty junk food wrappers/containers, she'll probably think you don't care about your health and are a slob. If your house is dirty, it sends the message that you are dirty. Skanky pictures on the wall send the message that you have skanky thoughts.
Do a few nice things before she comes over. Make sure there is a roll of toilet paper on the dispenser (this is a big deal for women), soap at the sink (with no hair on it) and a clean hand towel in the bathroom. Funky towels are gross and hairy soap is worse! The kitchen doesn't have to be spotless, but sanitary is good. No scraps or old dishes in the sink, nothing fuzzy or nasty in the fridge or spilling out of the trash can. Get the idea?
Good luck!

Clean and neat works, not just cleaned up to try to impress, but kept clean. but if you are trying to impress a girl you are serious about, that girl would like to see some evidence of stability, that it is something more than a place to bring the guys to drink, or a place to bring a girl[any and all girls] for ---.Some attempt to make the place a home would be great. Wouldn't have to look like Nate decorated it, would rather it not look like Mom had. Pictures on the walls, cooking implements in the kitchen, even if it is just a pan and a skillet, towels, sheets and blankets on the bed, a set of dishes in the kitchen, even if they are un-matched hand-me downs, a full set, plates, bowls, etc.. Some indication that someone lives there, something you would not be ashamed for Mom and Dad to see. Photos of Mom and Dad or the family, your best friends wedding, like that.
Something I would not like to see would be a slick bachelor pad, round bed, fully stocked bar, music piped into every room.

I'd be impressed with neat & tidy. A well stocked bar or at least a few choices of wine. Some nice snacks. A very clean bathroom.
A clean and neat bedroom with clean sheets on the bed. A clean bathroom with nice clean towels and maybe a candle burning.

Think of it this way...what does a man want to see when he walks into a womans house? Bras and panties all over the floor? Dirty dishes in the sink? Messy bathroom? I highly doubt a man wants to see all that when he enters a woman's house. Same goes for women...we want to know that a man knows how to keep his home clean. Even if you just clean it up in anticipation of a woman coming over.

1. Absent of Naked Woman Pictures on the wall.
2. Smell should be fresh (avoid the smell of shoes, ewwww) --- open windows, and leave shoes outside if you have stinky feet problems.
3. House should be tidy and have a good flow (fung shui) to it.
4. Living plants are a great sign that he can keep things alive (wink).

Clean and neat, in that order. After that, it's good if she sees some evidence he doesn't just sit at home and watch TV. For example, books or CDs or something to do with hobbies.

How neat and tidy they are and how they like to keep things clean and organized. Notice there's no clothes laying on the floor anywhere. All the dishes in the sink are done. The house has been dusted and floors are swept and mopped. The lovely meal he has prepared for you to eat: a nice 3 course meal followed by a rich, elegant cheesecake for dessert.

Wait. I'm dreaming! lol Let me get back to you on that!

depends on your lifestyle. I'm artistic and active and like clutter. I find that Athletic types are generally messy, and if you're metrosexual or gay, your place should be spotless. Very important to fit the stereotype.

cleanliness and (i know this may sound strange) I check out the fridge and medicine cabinets ( If he has no food he either isn't home long enough to eat or he can't afford food or he can't cook....all of these are a turn-off)( If a man has feminine products in his bathroom it's a turn-off)
