The canned pineapple has a lot of added ingredients. The fresh, naturally grown ones are healthier and it taste a lot better, plus you can take the skin that you cut off and soak it in water in a big mug for about a week or so and then you strain it and you can add a little sugar if you wish and it makes great tasting pineapple juice straight from the pineapple itself without any artificial flavor.

This may seem like a silly answer, and I'm not quite sure if it's what you're looking for, but I can tell you that fresh pineapple, although it tastes much better and is not loaded with preservatives, burns my mouth after eating a few pieces because the citric acid content is much higher. Canned pineapple, while still good and doesn't burn as quickly, is loaded with preservatives, as with many canned foods to keep it fresh.

For best flavor and healthfulness, I agree with everyone here: fresh is the way to go.
The one thing I have to add to everyone else's comments it that if you want to add pineapple to a gelatin dessert, you have to use canned. The enzymes in fresh pineapple will prevent the gelatin from setting.
BTW, those DelMonte Gold pineapples are amazing -- much sweeter than any other pineapple I've ever tasted (even the competing Chiquita Gold).

Are you kidding? Fresh is ALLWAYS so much better! Canned is not bad though, if that's all you can get, as for Pineapple, I can't get fresh often, so I use canned.

There's a big difference. Many baked items are much better with canned & the recipies require the juice as well. Personally, I find canned to be much sweeter & the meat is softer, so I like fresh better. It's firm and sweet without being too sweet or too mushy.

canned and fresh, there is a difference b/c fresh pineapple tastes more tropical and juicy than canned, but canned is also good. Dole pineapples are the best!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

yes, big difference. Canned pinapple is usually got sugar added and preseratives...unless you get Dole brand that is all natural...better off to just buy the pineapple, but its a pain in the behind to cut up

The canned pineapple is usually in some sort of syrup which makes it more sugary.
