He died to break a curse. The curse was that of judgement for practicing evil. God gave us a chance and laws to guide us but we are just not good performers so He took pity on us and sent a worthy blood sacrifice to appease the forces of darkness listed as principalities in the book of ephesians around chap. 5 i think. By doing this He bought us a pardon like the Gov. can for convicted people. He did make a provision for a modicum of obediance to recieve the pardon, and that was that you actually have to believe He did it. Small price to pay for falling so short of "never acting in the least bit evil" don't you think.

He is eternal. He transcends time. His forgiveness is eternal. A born again believer knows that even if he sins tomorrow, he is still forgiven by the power of the blood of Jesus that was shed at Calvary 2,000 years ago.

It is the concept that he introduced that endures.
The concept being that by loving Jesus you have someone in your heart who died to forgive you, no matter what it was you did.
In this way JC was a visionary.

The sins predate you
He's God.
He knew you before the foundation of the world.

In one man Adam all are dying.
In the last Adam, Jesus all can live.
It just depends which one you want to be like, disobedient Adam, or obedient Jesus.
