Step by Step if possible. Specifically how do you feed the cable thru the firewall inside the van thru the engine compartment to the hood?

start by getting the handle part of it loose on the inside,,and then disconnect it from the out side,,start pulling it through,,before you get it pulled all way through,,put a piece of duct tape on it with a small piece of wire or something,,,,then pull it the rest of the way through,,now fasten the end of the new cable on with the tape,,and carefully pull it through the hole it came out of,,then route it like the other one was,,by using wire or a piece of string it will allow you to pull it back through the same hole it came out of,,good luck with it,,i own a repair shop,,and we do this all the time,,i hope this help,s.

You should take it to a repair shop. If you don't install a hood latch correctly, you are asking for big trouble. I used to work at a body shop and this Dodge Ram came in that had a hood latch that was improperly installed (he had it done elsewhere). He was driving down the road, and his hood opened. Not only did it ruin his hood, it smashed his front window and did major damage to the roof of the truck.

On something like this, don't fool with it. Just take it somewhere, pay the man $50 and have it done.
