With out knowing it they are trying to secure our faith in their belief through fear, because this has worked on them they think it will work on you. Some just use it as a passive aggressive attack, if you notice if you are in conversation about their faith with them, they will express how Jesus is about love and how he loves you, when that fails they turn to hate. You will be saved if you accept the Lord Jesus as your savior is just a nice way of saying if you don't believe me then you will go to hell.

The original purpose of any religion is to allow a small number of leaders to control a very large number of followers.
But, this is harder than it sounds - you can't just ask nice. So, you reach for the oldest tool in the toolbox: FEAR. You then invent the concept of "Hell" - basically everlasting torture forever and ever. You supplement this with a few magical illusions and voila' - most people will believe that you speak on behalf of God - and then do whatever you tell them to do.
Now, for those rebelious few who insist on thinking for themselves you need to supplement the fear of torture later (Hell) with the fear of torture RIGHT NOW! Imprisonment, flogging, crusifiction, burning at the stake - that pretty much takes care of the rest.
All of a sudden you have this nice, compliant society that will give you all there money, go to war if you say to, and even overlook the fact that the religious leaders don't practice what they preach.
Next, you want to make sure that the societal control mechanism (aka: religion) that you have created is low-maintenance. It took a lot of hard work and sacrafice to get it up and running, so you don't want it to die off with the believers. Naw, you want to pass the control on to your kids!
So, you command your followers to 1) teach it to their kids and 2) convert outsiders. Now, you have a generation-to-generation self-sustaining societal control mechanism and the controlees are actually doing all the heavy lifting! Brilliant!
And, getting back to your question - Why would a Christian tell us we will suffer for eternity - the funny part is they don't even know why they are doing it! They are just like little multi-level marketers on auto-pilot!

Disclaimer: I do believe in God and an afterlife, and I do recognize organized religion as being necessary to hold society together. I just choose to see the psychological and sociological underpinnings of the whole thing..

Well, terrorists really commit terrorist acts.
But a believer who tells me I'll suffer for eternity just because I don't believe like him/her, I consider he/she spreads seeds of terrorism.
Until some real sick fanatical end up commit terrorist acts - because they were fed by all those seeds.
Some spread the seeds, others do the "bad work". Who are the worst ones?

I hope not. Scary to think about. I'd have to switch religions. No. I'd just say desprate to convert you. Just think what the Native American's had to put up with back in the old west. I'm not very deep into my religion but I am a member of a church.
Sheep following the leader.
A trick to keep Johova's witnesses away. A barking dog. Even if the dogs a wuss the barking will keep them from coming in. LOL

If one was standing on the sidewalk, and a little bit ahead of them there was a lone , unattended child that ran out into the middle of a busy street, any normal human being would try to get the child back onto the sidewalk, whether by shouting or running to grab the child before he or she was hit by a car. In the same sense, as Christians, we see so many people heading toward an eternity of punishment.
Revelation 14:11
And the smoke of their torment rises for ever and ever. There is no rest day or night for those who worship the beast and his image, or for anyone who receives the mark of his name."
If one does not follow God, then, whether they want to or not, they are falling into the plan of the Devil. It may sound extreme, facist, close-minded, ect., but in reality it is the truth. It's "either/or". Take your pick. As a Christian, why would I let you go without warning you? If you were sleeping in a hotel, and there was a fire, you would hopefully forgive someone if they woke you up to warn you so you could get out with your life. In similiar sense, all I'm doing is warning you. You choose. Stay in bed, you suffer. Get out, and run for safety, or, in this case, salvation. God bless!
Acts 2:21
And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.'

I often question the "christian" way of dealing with persuading others to do good. I don't believe the way to do it is to use fear. Also, I believe those christians could have a look at their own bible, because that's not what it teaches. Jesus did not come to the world to condemn it: but to save it.
God wants us to be happy. We are His children. He wants us to be free. That's why he has given us commandments: because we are free to choose what we want to do, but not to choose the consequences.
Take gravity: if you jump off of a cliff - it will hurt you. It will likely take away your ability to jump off of any more cliffs. So, by doing that which you thought was good for you, you ended up hurting yourself and losing your freedom to be able to do that in the futue.
It doesn't matter where you are in life - but where you are going.
If you learn the truth, and accept it, then you are going in the right direction. If you don't know the truth, God will not hold you accountable for that which you do ignoarantly. Everyone knows in their heart they are supposed to seek and live by truth. You will be accountable for knowingly rejecting truth. Noone else but God can judge whether or not you reject truth. That is a judgement between you can God.
God would not have us use force to change what someone believes. That can only be done by love and persuasion. Not by anger and contention. Please know that it is not a teaching of Jesus Christ to rip others down and condemn them for not seeing things the same as you. I would say that Christians that try to persuade others in this aggressive manner do not have a testimony of their own of the truth, but are only seeking for reassurance in others agreeing in their point of view.
So, what do you want more? Do you want to know the truth, or do you want to be "right"?
If you want to know the truth, you want others to believe it because it would be good for them, and ultimately good for you because you live in joy with others that know the truth.

They're scared that if they don't obey the command to "go out into the world and preach the good news" that they'll be in the fire flames of eternity right with us.
They aren't terrorists, just scared little sheep afraid of peeing off the shepard. That is what brainwashing does.

I bet you have never heard of that from a Christian, but just quoting the word of God. A terrorist would not even give you the chance by telling you anything, he would just blow himself and you up for not believing his religion. Duh, guess you will find out one day, the way you are going.

Don't blame the sheep too much, it is the little black book of evil called the bible which orders them to pass judgement...while also telling them not to pass judgement. Is it any wonder why ALL christians are hypocrites?
