The tip is a commision for how well they do their job. It's just how it works. If you don't want to pay the high price of restaraunt food, THEN DON"T GO. The tip is part of the meal cost.
I bet you run the servers nuts and make a big stink about everything too?
I REALLY hope you frequent the same joints. You have no doubt ingested more saliva, snot, and other unmentionables than you can imagine.
Yeah, and I bet you get paid A LOT more than 2bucks/hour.

It's the whole point of the way servers are paid. Their salary is very low because they get tips if they're good at their job. They could always do away with tips and raise the price of food 15 percent to make up for it. Would you prefer that? I think a lot of places in Europe do that. Tip is included in the price.
Or everyone could just stop tipping. Then no one would want to work those jobs and you would only get servers who very really bad at their jobs. Would that be better for you?

Then you can buy the food yourself, prepare the food yourself, and serve the food to yourself if you don't believe in tipping someone for providing you a personal service.
If you think restaurants are expensive enough already, just imagine how much more everything would cost if the business had to pay servers a higher salary.
Just wait until you see what happens in California now that the minimum wage is set to hit $8.00 an hour. Then you'll know the definition of expensive.

These types of positions are usually filled by teenagers. Most of them are happy making a little bit of shopping money. If you want to fill these positions I would look into posting ads at a local high school. You just have to be willing to give someone with no job experience a shot so this may require more guidance from you or your manager. However, if you don't have some kind of promotion plan for hard workers you better be prepared to lose all of your good people.

Ok, cheap ***, the company takes in to account the tips when they work out the wages for a server, therefore, they inculde YOUR tip into the servers wage, hence the reason it is such a crappy wage. Aside from cheapies like you, a server actually can make a pretty good living off the low wages and tips. Part of the servers tip also goes to the cooks who cook your meal for you, and to the bartender who poors your drink. Next time you go out, (even though with your attitude, I would consider just making my own meals, bring it to myself, then clean up after myself) take into consideration, everyone who has anything to do with YOUR meal, is getting a bit of that tip. People like you make me wanna SCREAM!! And no, I am not a server, but it was one of my favourite jobs.

The price of the employees wages are in the price of the food so if you tip the employee the employee won't bug the employer for an increase in wages when he increases the prices in the menue... It would be nice when they make the menue if they would at least thank the customer for paying for the service the employer suppose to pay for...

sounds like you should go to eat in places with counters, you order from. fast foods, cafeterias. like at a bar or a casino, they make less than minimum wage, the rest is provided for the service. the food, the drinks, the chips, they don't just fly up there. you have to tip or you go to eat out at a cafeteria and go to a movie. people remember who tips and acknowledges and who doesn't. so don't bring out a date to a place and not tip for the service, there won't be much. you're not corporate that's obvious, you don't know how this works, so i'm thinking you really don't have a job at all. tipping is for services. you tip a driver, a person who valets your car, someone who takes your bags. you can be cheap and tip a dollar, but tip, because you will be remembered. if you don't tip then try not to return a second time. you will be waiting. except if it were me, tipping me or not that's not going to stop me from doing my job to the best of my ability, even though i know who you are, it just makes me try harder and most of the time i win...

You are sad. You have no idea of the hard work required of wait staff and how little they are paid. Tips are given because there has been a service performed. If you don't want to pay tips, go to a restaurant where you can get your own food and drinks.

You should get take out food then.
Don't be cheap! Waitresses still don't make a lot of money, and they have no health or retirement benefits either.
If restaurants paid waitresses well we'd have to pay more for the food.
15 to 20% on a bill isn't going to kill you... You pay almost half that in sales tax anyway.
