I'm 6 weeks postpartum and my doctor said my uterus was back to normal, then why am I still bleeding and why does it seem to be getting heavier? Is it possible it's not coming from my uterus, could it be coming from my cervix or somewhere else? My doctor didn't seem too concerned, but I'm freaking out! Is there some kind of test I can get done to be for sure what's going on, so I can ease my mind of this? I know it's not my normal period because it's nothing like it since it's getting heavier and not lighter. My bleeding always stopped after 4 weeks with my last two pregnancies, so this doesn't seem normal for me. Please help me figure this out!

I am passing small blood clots, and also feeling very tired and dizzy. Also I have been having back and stomach pains. And I'm breastfeeding.

I agree it doesn't sound normal. Did your dr do an internal exam? If it were me and I trusted the dr then I would wait a week or so and then call his office if the bleeding hasn't stopped. If you aren't really comfortable with his approach then call and find a new gyn and explain the situation. It most cases if the bleeding hasn't stopped by 6 weeks post partum a drug usually has to be prescribed to stop the flow. Good luck to you and I hope it stops soon!

I bled for 2 months postpartum then i had my period. It is normal to bleed. The blood you see is called lochia. Everything should be fine if:
1- the uterus has returned to normal size,
2- you are not running a temperature,
3- you are not passing clots or tissue or feeling exceptionally fatigued,
4- and there is no foul odor associated with the bleeding, then all is probably fine

The bleeding can be normal but it's the back and stomach pain along with the dizziness that bothers me. Maybe you should make an appointment with another gyne. My cousin went through the same experience and found that the intern that checked her after delivery had not removed all of the clots and placenta. Don't panic because you don't want to stress yourself, and as long as you are not running a fever there is no infection.

You can have a period at 6 weeks even if you are breastfeeding feeding I did just like clock work. If you are getting dizzy it could be because of your anxiety. I had a heavy on after mine was borne. Go somewhere and have your blood pressure checked, if it is low go to Er asap, like 90/50 are something to that level. Go to a drug store and check it. If it is ok then you are ok.

Pregnancies are different. And well sometimes u bleed longer at times because u might put stress on ur body and it releases hormones that lengthens ur period. Dont worry too much, just try to continue taking ur prenatal/ vitamin pills to replace all the lost nutrients u lose from the bleeding, because u can become anemic.

Wow! You sound just like me. I just called my nurse this morning to see what she thought. I have had 2 other children also and am 6 1/2 wks post partum now. I stopped bleeding at 4 wks before, just like you. My nurse sais that it is fine, that my hormones just have to get back into check. If it is bothering you that badly though, call your doctor and ask for a consultation or a recheck.

If your doctor says it's ok I wouldn't worry too much. Maybe make an appointment with a second doctor & have them check you as well to ease your mind.

Not to freak you out but I think you should get a second opinion. If you feel that you doctor isn't listening then you've got to go to some one that will... maybe a women's clinic. good luck I'm sure that your fine and all will be well.

I gave birth in December 2004 and bled for almost 5 months there after. Just go back to your gynae and he will put you on meds to regulate your periods. Worked with me.

With each pregnancy your period can change, so it might be that, but I would personally get a second opinion. Good luck. Oh, and congratulations on your new baby.
