Labs are common every where.. in the 80's it seemed like every dog in the shelter was a shepherd mix, and before that cocker spaniels were everywhere... its just a popular breed.

Labs are great running partners. Many cities have set up trails to use and people are using them. Also labs are great hunting dogs. Great water dogs. Love to be outdoors. Most of all labs are great pets! Tender, sweet and loyal.

Because outdoorsy people prefer bigger dogs is my guess. I have a black lab and he's a great companion for hiking trails and walking the beach.
