You could become an apprentice, or do a city and guilds course. Look in your local tech colleges. They might have something to study from home.

I don’t think there is a fast track to becoming an electrician.

If you have some practical experience over the years but no qualifications you could register with your local college and do a part P course that lasts about 3 months. You would attend college one day a week. This course deals with the basics of a domestic installation but in no great detail. The exam is taken on line at the college and if successful it would allow you to certify your own work.

You could also do a 16th edition C&G 2381 course and again this would last about 3 months. This course deals with the 16th edition regs and the exam is again online at the college.

If you were again successful you could then do a C&G 2391 inspecting and testing course that would allow you to carry out inspections and issue periodic inspection reports.

If you have no previous experience I think you will find the above courses a challenge and will need to do a lot of reading and studying at home.

Some private companies offer the above courses over 5 days each but I would not recommend if you have no previous experience.

Check out your local college for the best advice, as they will be very happy to help.

If you can get accepted into the union, through the union hall, they will train you as an apprentice, at apprentice pay.
