Is there a substitution for sour cream in a receipe ?

I think that mayonaise, or cottage cheese. Depending on what it is. I put cottage cheese on my baked potato instead of sour cream. I have used mayonaise in a chocolate cake recipe instead of sour cream.

Tofutti makes a vegan version of sour cream; it also keeps a meat dish kosher.
