No, it is not a sport. My girlfriend did stuff like that in high school and is always trying to tell me how hard it was and how much work went into it. I thought it was a joke so we put it to the test. I went to a Summer Band Camp thing for a day to watch them "work hard: and they do work hard compared to the lazy kids who do nothing more then video games. But they don't do anything compared to people who play soccer, football, swim, crew or any of a dozen real sports. There is no score kept, there is no balls in play. There are no officials, they are entertainment. They are not athletes, and it is not a sport in any way.

Of course it's not a sport! Is it in the Olympics. Yet? Yeah, you march around and follow direction. You play an instrument, so I it's 'aerobic'! Sorta. And how are you graded? By showing up and not getting lost! Hopefully!
You sit in the stands and watch too, so it can be cool that way, but a sport? Naw! Oh, what the world record for, uh, marching? Now if you can only do that under water while holding your breathe twirling a hoola hoop . . .

I am in marching band, but I don't think it's a sport. Not that it isn't a lot of physical activity and you have to work together and all that stuff, but I don't think that sports and marching band should be in the same category. They have similarities, but they still aren't the same. Marching band is a seperate entity.

a marching band uses cardiovascular exercise like you would not believe unless you have done it. You have to move and march repeatedly, do drills over and over, and use rhythm and musical skill. It may not be called a sport but you need to be athletic to do it right. Kudos to anyone who has done it.

I would say yes. It requires carrying an instrument (possibly a large one) over a long distance while doing precision movements. It requires practice and teamwork.
