Our Golden is making a mess of our yard on his runner. We'd like to fence in an area of the yard where he can play, don’t want to make it to small. We do want to keep some yard space for the kids. Our Golden is going to be a BIG boy and don't want him making messes for the kids to step in. So fencing the whole yard is not an option at this time.

When you put in your fence, just remember the dog needs more space to run than the kids. For a dog this size and for him to get the proper exercise, I'd suggest 50' X 100'. This would allow ample room for him to really run. If your yard is smaller, just fence the biggest you can, and then put in a cross fence. This will give both, the dog and kids space to play.

I fenced in the whole yard and then fenced off the kid's area. My husband has fits over mowing, but everyone is happier. As for size, I'd just go by the size of your yard and how much you want to give to the dog. If he's out all the time, he needs more space. If you take him for walks and he comes inside you can do with less.

Well the obvious answer is the bigger the space for him, the better. Look at the yard and decide what area will be his and what will be the kids and go from there. Good Luck!

A 20 X 20 made my dog very happy. He's a 90 pound dog so I would imagine yours would approve.
