I think everyone's pain tolerance is different. Yes it is going to be painful, yes you will forget once the baby is born. You need to do what your body tells you to do - but keep in mind that this is temporary pain and it will be over eventually. I had a 24 hour labor with my 10lb daughter and I was 18yrs old. I eventually had an epidural and went on to have a wonderfully healthy baby girl. I think the next time I have a baby, I will follow what my body is telling me to do and if I feel the need for medication, I will react then. There are other pain meds out there as well to choose from!

In my opinion after having 3 births, all of which were different, is do what feels right to you when you are actually in labor. I wanted to go natural with my first but after 18 hours of an induced labor and still being only dialated to a 2, I tried the narcotics and it didn't work it just made me throw up. So I got the epideral, which made me relax enough to deliver 6 hours later. My second was induced but I got nothing and only had a easy 6 hour labor and delivery. So I went into my third thinking it would be a piece of cake. But after a 10 hour induced labor, I decided I had to get the narcotics, and that time they actually worked for me and I delivered an hour later. In the end all of the babies were just fine, don't worry about that. But honestly my best recovery was my 2nd, and my worst recovery has been this one (my third). But yes I would try and deliver naturally again.

Yes, I had my daughter in the all natural way.
It was a 17 hour labour, and I didn't need an epidural. I was more afraid to have a doctor put a needle in my spine than I was of giving birth. That's a pretty sensitive place to be sticking a needle! I know women do it all the time, but it wasn't for me.

I knew how I was going to handle the pain. By staying calm, and letting my body do what it had to do. Breathing helped immensely, as did a cool cloth on my head. When it was down to the wire...almost time to push, the nurse jumped in my bed and put pressure on my lower back (can't remember the technical name, it's the tailbone region). That worked fabulously. Then it was just a matter of pushing her out, which was pretty much the only way to make the pain stop (lol) so it wasn't hard to do that either!

I was proud of myself, and I think I should be. So many women fight the labour. Screaming, and clenching their muscles... it only causes more pain. Natural labour IS possible. And I will do it again.

I gave birth to a 8 lbs. 13 oz. baby boy, who is 10 years old now. I was 24 when I had him. I did it all natural and I would not recommend this for anyone. I was in so much pain I could have cared less, if they had cut my head off. I was screaming at everyone in the room. I was given an epidural, but after about 3 hours it didn't work anymore. By then it was too late to give me anything else. Then when my son wouldn't come out the doctor got out the "tongs" and pulled my son out. It was the worst pain you can imagine. I have been afraid to have another baby, and now I am older, so don't plan on doing it again.

My mother in law did it all 6 times with her children - and even had a 10 pound 4 ounce baby boy. Her youngest is now 16...but still possible.

As for me - both of mine were epidurals, I had a 23 hour labor the first time and 19 the second. I prefer not to have pain for that long. I would be willing to try natural the next time, but after 10 hours, I usually give up!

I asked for some drugs at 4cm and they said it was to early the next time I asked I was to far along. They gave me a little shot of something can't remember what it was. But I think someone mentioned the equivlent to 3 tylenol or something like that so I think I was pretty much natural. I hope with the baby I'm going to have in 12 weeks that I can have some drugs but on the other hand I would just about rather it be quick like my last one. If I could do both that would be awesome too.

I am so glad you asked that question. YOU CAN DO IT! I did it unintentionally. And my first I had an epidural. The first I was in labor 12 hours. The 2nd (no epidural) less than 3 hours. I would definitely do it again. The epidural slows down the birth process and can make the baby drowsy. It is all about your frame of mind. You have to really set yourself up mentally for what is about to happen. Read alot of info. about relaxing your body and mind. Remember woman have been doing it for eons. I would seriously consider it because it makes the birth go soooo much faster. You go girl!!!

I went all natural for the birth of my son. It was an amazing experience and I would do it again in a second!!! I was so nervious about child birth...I knew going in that I was planning to have my son all natural. I had heard about epidurals and induced labor taking longer and actually being more painful (mostly because they are dragged out). I have also had a lot of women tell me that with Demeral they still felt everything and the baby came out dozy (which the doctors give them another shot of something else for >: l ) I didn't like the idea of that plus their kids had problems later on. So, I went in know that I was having no interventions (meds), and I was nervious...not knowing the gender of the baby helped...but just before pushing I asked my hubby when we could get started on the next one. It was the most amazing experience of my life and I would definatly do it again...and again...and again...and again...and again...and again...and again...and again...and again...and again...and again...and again...and again...and again...and again...and again...and again...and again...and again...and again...and again...and again...and again...and again...and again...and as many times as god(or higher powers), my body, and MY HUSBAND will allow!

First child~took Stadol to "cut the edge off", made me loopy and still had an 8 lb, 7 oz girl without any more intervention.

Second child~delivered 9 lb, 9 oz boy without any intervention.

Third child~delivered 11 lb, 8 oz girl after dilating to 9 cm and then an epidural. Would not even considered a vaginal birth without it!

More kids? Not likely!
