In philosophical conversations with religious people, I've heard several say that they know their beleifs are true through faith. But I see knowledge and faith as incompatible concepts. Isn't faith only neccessary when you cannot obtain knowledge and must predict and make sense of events? And if I know something has happened already, I don't need faith, do I? Could someone enlighten me on the whole knowledge through faith thing. I'm not trying to make fun of anyone's beliefs. I just want to understand.

Faith is belief in the absence of evidence. That is why it is interesting to see how far people will go to try to find "evidence" to substantiate their faith. If they require evidence, then they really don't have much faith...

The definition of faith is being certain of unseen things (from the Bible). There actually is evidence that can be measured but you cannot obtain that evidence without first exercising faith. I could show you a ledger I keep of specific prayer requests with hundreds of very specific prayer requests, many of which I took no action to pursue on my own but were answered to the letter. Believe what you want, but the only person you are hurting by not trusting in God and what he has promised you (in the Bible) is yourself.

For one of The True Christian Faith that is a question that has as many answers as there are those of The Faith. Because the relationship between God and His people is one-on-one and personal... How he worked and continues to work with me is different than how he works with someone else

I invite you to read my testimony of my first day of The Chrisitian Faith. This is all any of The Faith can offer in way of trying to explain the how and why of our Faith.

here is the direct link to it so you do not have to wade through my website to find it

Faith is hope in that which is not seen, that is for the future. Hope in what is seen is faith in what occurs in the present. Both are necessary in the Christian life---faith in a new life in Christ and faith in the future resurrection of the body in Christ. It all revolves around trust, trust in the promises of God. Without faith, no system of belief can survive on its own. In Islam, faith is enforced through the application of tyranny. In Christianity, faith comes by belief in the completed work of Jesus Christ at the cross. Islam is violent and offensive, Christianity is non-violent and humble.

Faith means expanding your intuitive awareness of God's presence within, and not relying on reason as your chief means of understanding.
