it is perhaps dominance or hormone related and yes you have given her the wrong kind of food. She should be on a low protein diet and certainly not have salty ham. Did your friend not even leave specific diet instructions and a bag of dog food?
A high protein diet for an older dog will damage her kidneys and lead to an early death from kidney failure.

The mounting behavior is showing you that she is the leader of thepack or top dog and that she thinks your husband is lower than she is in the pecking order.
He needs to show her he is not.
Also feeding a dog ham is not really very good for them.
It has to much salt and is cured and smoked and not good for the dog.
Dog food would be much better.

Don't give dogs ham - way too much salt.
Leg humping is usually about dominance. She knows you're new and is trying to tell you that she's the boss, not you. Jack Russells are very smart and very naughty and she's trying to be the leader of the pack. Don't let her do that.

Jack Russell's will eat just about anything! My Mom's love Green Peppers. A female mounting is about alfa dog. She's telling your Husband that she is the BOSS.

Totally normal behavior for a terrier - male or female. She's challenging your authority and bossing you around. Just pull her off firmly and tell her NO when she starts it. Or squirt her in the face with a water pistol.

Is she spayed?
Humping is a sign of dominance. One animal will hump another to show them who's boss... my mom's female dog often does this to the (male) cat.

It's normal. She is just telling him that she is the boss. FYI, don't give the pup fish. It will make them extremely sick. My brother raises them and he actually had one to die from eating fish... thanks to his three year son old sharing.

This is not a reproductive thing. She is trying to assert dominance.
