If I can't get a jar open, I stick a butter knife under the rim of the lid and twist until the seal pops. You can also pry it with a spoon (it works well with pickle jars too).

I PROMISE THIS WILL WORK! Turn it upside down. Using the heel of your hand, bop the bottom of the jar. If, that doesn't do it, bang the lid a little on the floor at an angle.

With the jar upright, use your palm and hit the bottom of the jar. It should open much easier.

When that happens, my mom taught me to smack the edge of the lid on the counter a couple times. Works like a charm.

Run under warm water and dry off. Put a thick rubberband around the lid and twist.

Place a rubber band around the lid and turn. Works for me every time.

For an added boost try placing a thick and sturdy rubber band around the lid, it might give your grip and edge.

On the food network, they always turn it upside down and rap it on the counter - never tried it though - I use my jar opener

Use the handle of a butter knife and smack the edge of the lid a few times, the seal will break.
