almost all the religions were spread by power showdown and war and conquering of neighbouring kingdom and people till 17th century end, this is the truth as per universal history. only after 1800AD the spreading of several religions took place by preaching and converting. this is true with every religion other than Buddhism, which spread all over the eastern countries.
What POPE said was true with every religion even Christianity.
humans became more civilized only after 17th century end. Even Britishers believed in the freedom of Religion after they came across many truths of nature after meeting their waterloo in India. But the Muslims who ruled India from 14th century middle wanted to establish their Empire in India also put some rules about Religious worship, but it was AKBAR who had religious tolerance and considered all the religions on par with one another.he also formed Din-e-ilahi a new religion which was formed from best aspects of Hinduism & Islam.
i've to mention also the Mughal emperor who was an ardent Muslim-Aurangazeeb created havoc into people and converted them to Islam under terroristic punishments. He also was doing all odd jobs in Mosque like cleaning all the visitors shoes there .
though he worshipped Allah he came to be known for his cruelty
so personally i feel that he was a terrorist and he wanted to rule the country with religion.
finally before his death the Mughal kingdom lost a lot of their conquerred countries to tom, **** and harry, the gods /allahs reconciliation to aurangazeeb was good though he claimed to be a follower of Islam.
coming to POPE he sounds like a Marketing man when he in particular about Islam knowing pretty well about all the religions of the world-their birth and existense.
he shouldn't have said another thing that Christians should not be tolerant towards other religions. he means that peace should be wiped away from the face of the earth. Dear sir , tolerance ,thinking and reasoning only lets the world live in peace even today, if you wanted that to be eliminated from our brother Christians then everywhere there will be misery and unending brawls only.

Don’t you see the irony in Muslims being able to desecrate a Christian Temple in Jerusalem by spreading feces on images of Christ? But a Christian leader (the Pope) can’t remind people of what 14th century Byzantine emperor Manuel Paleolous II said about the profit Mohammad several hundred years ago. It wasn’t even the Popes own words or thought. He was repeating what Paleolous II supposedly said. . What’s with the hypersensitivity anyway?
The Muslims can dance in the streets; shout and yell; raise their fists all they want to but I do not believe the Pope owes Muslims an apology for anything.
Some have contended the terrorists are a form of radical Islam and a small minority of the faith. They say the large majority of Muslims are a peaceful people. I am beginning to wonder about these claims when I see the reported millions in the streets protesting what the Pope repeated.
Two faced or what? Is Islam a peaceful religion or a violence based religion? By what I am seeing and hearing, I would have to conclude the latter.

The Pope has no reason to apologize, he quoted a 14th century emperor and it was taken out of context. I know of no other religion in recent history that has been as militant, radical, and terroristic as the Islamic radicals. Almost all terrorist acts have been in the name of Islam, all beheadings, suicide bombing, and torture has been in the name of Islam. The rest of the world should demand an apology from the Islamic clerics, and a pledge for them to stop the senseless violence done by these so called true believers.
The following was provided by another member in response to a similar question, it seems to reinforce the propensity toward violence.
Ishaq:544 “Muhammad commanded the people to prepare for the foray [raid, incursion, sortie, attack, or assault]. The Messenger informed his troops that he was going to Mecca. He ordered them to prepare themselves and ready their equipment quickly. He said, ‘O Allah, keep spies and news from the Quraysh until we take them by surprise in their land.'” Fundamental Islamic organizations like Hamas, Hezbollah, Islamic Jihad, and al-Qaeda offer the same prayer today.
Ishaq:544 “Hassan incited the men, reciting: ‘This is the time for war. Don't feel safe from us. Our swords will open the door to death.'” And so it would be forevermore.
Qur'an 9.5 “When the sacred forbidden months for fighting are past, fight and kill the disbelievers wherever you find them, take them captive, beleaguer them, and lie in wait and ambush them using every stratagem of war.”

The pope said that the use of violence to promote religion is evil. It should be obvious to everyone that Islam does have a tendency to resort to violence all too frequently.
Don't believe me? Is there anyone here who is willing to bet that there WON'T be "peaceful Muslims" rioting in the streets over the pope's comments?

The pope quoted from an OLD record which stated in essence
that Islam was based on the same teachings as Judaism and Christianity, but had changed by adding evil (Jihad, kind of?).
Of course "they" only heard the second part. The pope would like to enter into a dialogue "to draw attention to the incompatibility of faith and violence". See:

As usual, bad tongues trying to twist the words in a good man's mouth.

The terrorist attacks in the US and Indonesia were carried out by certain groups of Muslims who believe that they carried out the commands of their leader. The real question is did their leader really command such acts of violence? The Koran does have passages that seem to condone violence in some situations. But in what situations? That is the question. Christianity does not condone violence whatever the condition is. Jesus said if someone slaps you in one cheek let him have the other as well. Islam has to answer the Terrorists what their Leader really teaches? Is Terrorism condoned in the religion?

Pope should read the Bible first. The original Bible I am saying .He should know about Christianity first and then may be he can open his mouth.Even then he has no right to criticise another religion.
