The bible does not specifically say that. However, the thought is: if you are a true believer, then you will trust God in all things and would never have a need to commit suicide. So the act of suicide shows a lack of trust in God and in his ability to save you.

The reasoning behind that belief is that you have to repent your sins before you die. When you commit the sin of suicide (given you see suicide as a sin), then you don't exactly have any time to repent.

Take it as you will. Not all Bible followers believe 1. that suicide is a sin, 2. that you go straight to hell for it, 3. that you would not have time to repent, 4. that you even have to repent your sins to get into heaven.

What the Bible says about Suicide

It's better to kill yourself (or have someone assist your suicide) than to be killed by a woman.
And a certain woman cast a piece of a millstone upon Abimelech's head, and all to brake his skull. Then he called hastily unto the young man his armourbearer, and said unto him, Draw thy sword, and slay me, that men say not of me, A women slew him. And his young man thrust him through, and he died. -- Judges 9:52-53

Suicide is a noble thing if it results in the death of your enemies (including civilians).
And Samson took hold of the two middle pillars upon which the house stood, and on which it was borne up, of the one with his right hand, and of the other with his left. And Samson said, Let me die with the Philistines. And he bowed himself with all his might; and the house fell upon the lords, and upon all the people that were therein. So the dead which he slew at his death were more than they which he slew in his life. -- Judges 16:29-30

At the end of the world many will try to commit suicide to escape God's torments, but God won't let them.
And in those days shall men seek death, and shall not find it; and shall desire to die, and death shall flee from them. -- Revelation 9:6

I am sure that you have heard of the commandment "Thou shalt not kill. That includes yourself. God does forgive if we ask for forgiveness but when can you ask for forgiveness for suicide? You can't be forgiven for a sin before you commit it. Sooooo the only time you can ask for forgiveness is after the fact but then it is too late. Divine laws were laid down before the beginning of time and one of then is the law of reap and sow. So if you sow death you reap death and that death would be hell. So my advise to you and anyone else contemplating suicide is to " don't do it".

This is nowhere in the bible. The only unforgiveable sin is blasphemy against the holy spirit, your ancestors down to your great grandchildren will be punished if you blaspheme.

This appears to be an urban myth about suicide.

The answer you get will depend upon the branch of Christianity believed by the answerer.

If Christianity is "true", then one of the two people above me has got it wrong and will go to Hell anyway.

it is a sin to take your own life and there is no repentence from the grave, so there is no way you can ask for forgiveness after, but you could ask before, but what good does it do if you ask and then turn around and do it' you ask for forgiveness after sin, before , would be in your mind and its a sinful thought

You should value life no matter what are your religious believes... Those who "kill" them selfs are cowards and are wasting a great chance... the one of living and enjoying it. Each one of use has some good times and bad times (some times quite bad) but this is no reason for taking something which is not yours... let the nature take it's course... no one lives forever...not even me :D...

Murder is sin.
Self murder would be a sin.
I don't think, however, one can be in complete control of their faculties to accomplish it.
Jesus Christ is loving, just and fair and the final judge on the matter.
