I'm 38 and I'm over it (hell, it's been twenty years ago), but when I think of him, I still get a smile and goose bumps thinking of that first kiss.

I think I read about that in a psychology magazine. Supposedly, because it's your first love, it gets carved in your head and becames a standard to which you compare your future relationships. There were examples of people who got together again later in their lives and really hit it off. Some even felt compelled to leave happy, solid marriages to be with their first loves. Also, the divorce rate for people who got together again later in their lives was significantly lower than it was for others. Edit: I found a link to your article!

I'm not really sure a friend of mine is 22 and she's been involved with her first love since she was 14 and he was 19. And no matter what break ups and all she still goes back to him.. So I would say it depends on if you were hurt by your first true love. But then again I think everyone has those nice memories of them and it can make it hard to forget and get over

I think once you make a connection with a person no matter how long ago it will still have an affect on you. Things that your first love did no one else is going to do. You may never get over the warm feeling you feel when you feel when thinking of them.

I think we eventually get over the break-up but I don't think we ever forget the way they made us feel and the things we experienced with them. With mine I've blocked out the bad things, all I remember now is the good things, and the reasons I fell in love with him in the first place.

And u always will! Our first love will always be the most special for a wide variety of reasons.

We never really get over it but if we do things right, they still carry a special place in our heart and mind w/o getting in the way of our current relationships.

It's just like you said, you get over it, but you always have those memories. You got me thinking back and smiling now too! Thank you.

That's good that thoughts of him make you smile. I don't know that you'll ever get over THAT aspect. When I think of my first love, I shudder a little, so there you go. ;-)

I know how you feel. I think we do get over it but it'll always be a first for us and for some reason we never forget our firsts.

You leave them but as you can see you never forget them, that's what made you who you are today in the world of love.
