If you are talking about processes it all depends on what software and drivers are installed on your system.

Rather then trying to shut things done through C+A+D, use the msconfig utility. With msconfig, you do it once and they are shut down. With C+A+D you may have to shut them back down each reboot.

Go to Start, then Run and type in: msconfig
Go to the startup tab
You will see a list of all the programs that are loaded when your computer starts up. Uncheck any that you do not have to have. Usually you can uncheck them all. These are all things that have been added to your computer by other programs. None of them are essential to Windows itself.
If you decide you to need one, you can go back and recheck it.

If you still want to do the C+A+D, copy down the names of all running porcesses and then Google each. You will be able to fins out what it is and what it is used for.
